AEW REVOLUTION 2021 Predictions

Another big AEW PPV is on it’s way tomorrow night with REVOLUTION, and it promises to be a stacked card of amazing wrestling action. With that in mind, let’s get down the match card, and make our bold predictions…

WOMEN’S BUY IN MATCH – Thunder Rosa & Riho v. Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. & Reba: The pre-show match before the PPV begins with two combatants from the AEW Women’s Contender Tournament–Rosa & Riho–now teaming up to face Dr. Britt Baker & Reba…who have been a thorn in the side of Rosa for a few months now. So, seeing Rosa and Baker in the ring against each other again is a treat. And Riho as a partner will work well with Rosa, because they will be the ones to really carry this match, though Baker will do her part. As for Reba, she’s there to get the crap beat outta her. She will take the punishment until she can do what she can to turn the momentum her team’s way, and allow Baker to come in and inflict the damage. I’ve no doubt that Baker and Rebel will do everything they can to cheat their way to victory, but I expect some pretty good flowing tag team work between Rosa & Riho. It’s sad that 3 of the 4 women in this match didn’t reach the finals of the tournament—especially Rosa & Baker, who would’ve been BETTER opponents for Hikaru Shida later in the night, but we got what we got. And at least the rivalry between Baker and Rosa continues.

PREDICTION: I think we all know why Reba is there—to eat the pin. Baker will be protected in this match, but this will be a good win for Thunder Rosa & Rhio to get everyone ready for the actual PPV.

CASINO TAG TEAM ROYALE: This match will be a for a future tag team title shot down the road against whomever the tag team champions will be coming out of tonight. The teams contesting are as follows: Bear Country, The Natural Nightmares, The Varsity Blonds, SoCal Uncensored, The Butcher & The Blade, PAC & Rey Fenix, Private Party, Top Flight, The Dark Order, Proud & Powerful, The Pretty Picture, The Gunn Club, and Jurassic Express. Last team standing…or last member of any team standing will gain the opportunity for a future tag title shot. There are many stellar tag teams here, and battle royales tend to be a bit difficult to book…especially when it’s tag teams involved. But the ring is going to be littered with bodies. My top two teams left in the ring when it’s all said and done? Proud & Powerful and The Jurassic Express. After that….Private Party and Top Flight.

PREDICTION: It would be REAL interesting to see ANY of the 4 teams mentioned win it all. But I’m going with Santana & Ortiz of Proud & Powerful here. They’ve been on a roll as of late, and wouldn’t be a GREAT storyline if the #1 contenders for the tag titles are in the Inner Circle…ESPECIALLY if Jericho & MJF capture the titles? But those gents are my pick to survive the carnage.

MIRO & KIP SABIAN (w/Penelope Ford) v. ORANGE CASSIDY & CHUCK TAYLOR: A rivalry that’s gone on ENTIRELY too long will HOPEFULLY finish here at this PPV, as Miro & Kip Sabian face off against Orange Cassidy & Chuck Taylor. Trent Beretta has been sidelined since he was injured by Miro, and there’s been this back and forth between Cassidy, Miro, Taylor, and Sabian. Cassidy disrupted the wedding of Sabian & Ford by smashing Ford’s face i the wedding cake, while Taylor beat up Sabian, all while Miro was cuffed to the ring ropes, unable to do anything. The fact that Miro has been attached to this crap since he arrived in AEW has done him NO FAVORS whatsoever. Sabian and Ford’s story hasn’t been anything special, and it’s seriously limited Ford’s ability to progress as a wrestler in the ring on her own merit. So….be that as it may, watch Miro get to do his monster heel stuff, and be the powerhouse he’s supposed to be, and Sabian will ride his coattails. Cassidy will be Miro’s main target, as he’s been the bigger pain. I expect Ford WILL play something of a factor in this match, don’t be surprised if Trent shows back up to even things out.

PREDICTION: This story needs to end, and end NOW. It’s gone on long enough, and no one really cares anymore. Miro’s been reduced to a clown in this feud, when he should’ve been demolishing competitors on his way to the TNT Title or working his way to an AEW Title opportunity. Either way, I see Cassidy and Taylor picking up the win, and Miro—being frustrated that they lost due to Sabian’s incompetence, turns on him, and leaves Sabian on his own, and breaks out on his own…finally.

AEW WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP – Ryo Mizunami v. Hikaru Shida (C): Mizunami was the big winner of AEW’s Women’s Championship Contender Tournament that was held both in the US and Japan during the last few weeks. She defeated Nyla Rose on Dynamite this last week in order to set up her title match against the Longest Reigning AEW Champion in the company’s short history in Shida…who has been looking for a challenger for awhile (and since the company has COMPLETELY dropped the ball on the booking of its Women’s Division ENTIRELY), so she helped set up this tournament, and even travelled back home to Japan to oversee and help produce the matches on the Japanese side (Shida DOES have experience in this department, having produced her own wrestling shows in the past). But in a tournament where you had Dr. Britt Baker, Riho, AND Thunder Rosa…..they went with an unknown from the Japanese side. Though Mizunami and Shida DO have experience against one another…it was in Japan, and American audiences are not privvy to that. Apparently, Shida has also never beaten Mizunami, either. Expect a really well joshi match between the two women, with Mizunami having the edge in power, but Shida will use her speed and ring smarts to try and stave off the big power moves.

PREDICTION: While there are SOME in the wrestling community who actually BELIEVE that Mizunami will upset Shida….they’re on crack. There is NO WAY Shida is losing this title right now. The match will be good….but it would be a mistake taking that title off Shida NOW….especially when you have Britt Baker, Thunder Rosa, and SEVERAL other actual signed AEW talents (Mizunami is NOT an AEW talent. Yes, Rosa isn’t EITHER, but she’s spent more time on AEW TV, and thus, audiences are FAMILIAR with her), waiting in the wings to take on Shida IF they start booking this division correctly. Shida will retain, and her reign will continue until it’s Britt Baker’s time to get another shot.

FACE OF THE REVOLUTION LADDER MATCH: Penta El-Zero v. Lance Archer v. Cody Rhodes v. Max Caster v. Scorpio Sky v. TBA: All of the 5 men involved in this match (and a mystery 6th…whomever this will be), will all try to cause maximum damage to one another in the hopes that they will be the new #1 contender for Darby Allin’s TNT Title. Cody’s already been the cchamp, Penta has yet to taste gold in AEW, Caster is the new kid on the block, and Sky has been part of the inaugural tag team champs in SoCal Uncensored….but he’s looking to break out on his own. The objective will be to climb the ladder and grab the contract that will be placed above the ring….and anything goes! We KNOW there’s going to be some high impact moves, A LOT of flying around, and SOMEONE getting pushed off a ladder at some point in this match….not to mention the possibility of SOMEONE bleeding (Cody) in this match before it’s said and done. And this doesn’t even account for whomever the six person is for this match.

PREDICTION: Pretty much ANY guy in this match can win it. But for MY money—the guy taking home the contract is Lance Archer. Archer has been red hot as of late, and they’ve been building him up for something big down the road, and this could be it. Archer wins, and Darby Allin better watch his back. I don’t care WHO the six man is….Archer is winning this match.

BIG MONEY MATCH – Matt Hardy v. “Hangman” Adam Page: This match came about after WEEKS of Matt Hardy trying to court the Hangman to join him. But knowing how Hardy has screwed Private Party out of THEIR earnings be stealing more from them than what they expected, he tried to do the same thing with Page, but it blew up in his face. Instead, we had Page give Hardy a contract where they’re in a match with each other. And the winner gets the loser’s First Quarter Earnings. Now, Hardy has tried to put a damper on Page, but The Dark Order has been there to assist Page at every turn to stop Hardy’s shenanigans, but now Hardy has vowed to destroy every member of The Dark Order in order to get to Page. I won’t be surprised at all if Private Party or SOMEONE Hardy pays off to stick their nose in this match to cause a distraction, or do what they can to cheat on his behalf to gain Page’s earnings. Physically, Hardy isn’t a match for the younger Page, but he’ll make up for it in ring smarts.

PREDICTION: Hardy is going to pull out all the stops–and pay off whomever he can, to win this match. But….Page is on an upswing, and they need to push him forward and upward on the card. Page will win, teach Hardy a lesson, and we can move onto the next thing for the Hangman.

AEW TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP – Chris Jericho & MJF (w/Wardlow) v. The Young Bucks (C): Things got personal between these two teams when Jericho & MJF beat up Papa Buck, and got him sent out in an ambulance during a recent episode of Dynamite. The Bucks are pissed, and are looking for blood themselves. The Inner Circle WILL be lying about in wait in order to take advantage of any distractions, and Wardlow is, always, by MJF’s side. The Bucks are on their own, though The Good Brothers showed SOME solidarity with them by helping out with Papa Buck. I expect this match to be physical, and I expect Jericho & MJF to play mind games the whole match. But if this is ANYTHING like what we usually see from the tag team division of AEW…it’s going to be a damn good contest.

PREDICTION: A LOT of x-factors play into effect here: The Inner Circle ALWAYS in the grass, looking to strike like snakes, and then there’s the chance the Bucks make a critical mistake late in the match. But there’s also the Good Brothers. Though they SHOWED solidarity—Don Callis has been trying to push the Bucks out of Kenny Omega’s orbit. The Good Brothers turning on them would be a way to do that. Either way, I see Jericho & MJF pulling off the upset, and gaining tag team gold.

STREET FIGHT – Brian Cage & Ricky Starks (w/Taz) v. Sting & TNT Champion Darby Allin: In yet another feud that seems to drag on endlessly, the continued feud between Team Taz Darby Allin. This has been an issue since last year, and it seems like its run its course. Now, we have Sting joining the festivities, and this is going to be a cinematic street fight. Darby has defied the odds at every turn ,and turned back Starks and Cage in TNT title matches, but this feud NEEDS to end….enough is enough. With this street fight, I know there will be blood and violence….and Darby taking a SERIOUS ass-whipping. But I also see Sting delivering HIS damage with his bat and anything ELSE he can find. There’s also the thought of Taz’s son making an appearance, as well as Will Hobbs. Even though it’s SUPPOSED to be two on two….don’t expect that.

PREDICTION: You don’t bring back a 61 year old Sting….only to have him AND Darby lose to Team Taz. This feud needs to end, and ALL parties need to move onto other things. It’s been played out, and…quite frankly…Taz needs to get over it. Losing here should bury the feud once and for all. Sting & Darby win.

EXPLODING BARBED WIRE DEATH MATCH FOR THE AEW WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP – Jon Moxley v. Kenny Omega (w/Don Callis): Chapter 3 is about to be written between these two heated rivals, and if their LAST special stipulation match at last year’s FULL GEAR wasn’t violent enough…Omega has upped the stakes: and Exploding Barbed Wire Death Match. 3 sides of the ring wrapped in barbed wire, with mines strewn about ringside, with any touch of the barbed wire or even being outside will trigger them off. These two are going to get EXTREMELY bloody. The violence is going to be cranked past 11. These two are going to wear each other out. But mind you – Omega’s got a plan SOMEWHERE in place. He’s the one that ASKED for this stipulation. And while he’s trying to meet Moxley on HIS level…he’s also trying to stay one-step ahead of Mox in this regard.

PREDICTION: As I have said….Omega & Callis have SOMETHING cooked up for Moxley. Yeah, Kenny’s going to get the crap beat out of him in this match, and he’s going to bleed…a lot. But…he’s also got Callis floating around ringside, as well as The Good Brothers in the back. Not that it would sit well with ME if the Good Brothers stuck their nose in Omega’s match, those are factors you have to deal with. I also feel that it’s STILL a little too early to have Omega losing this title. He needs a really good run with it, and defeating Moxley here will work towards him having a match with Page somewhere down the road. He and the Hangman have a date with destiny down the road…and I think it’s time to start building him up. But Omega will retain the title…but he’s going to be battered and bloody in the process.

That’s MY take on who’s going to be the winners coming out of this PPV….who do YOU think will win tomorrow night? Subscribe and leave your predictions below.

That’s MY two cents….from the bleachers.
